Areas of Interest

Dr. Casey is a general urologist with a focus on adult male urology and stone disease.  He is NOT a pediatric urologist, and does only minor pediatric urologic surgery, such as circumcisions, undescended testes, and the like.  Other more complex pediatric urological problems should be seen by a specialized pediatric urologist.  Thanks for your understanding.
Dr. Casey's primary areas of interest are surgical.  He treats simple to moderately complex cancer problems, including prostate cancer, bladder cancer, testicular cancer, renal (kidney) cancer, and other genitourinary cancers.  He performs radical orchiectomy, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, radical nephrectomy, and radical nephroureterectomy.  Dr. Casey is no longer doing radical cystectomies/cystoprostatectomies (for bladder cancer) and also no longer schedules radical prostatectomy.  (Patients selecting surgical therapy for bladder or prostate cancer can be referred to tertiary centers for consultation regarding these options.)

Dr. Casey assists in performing brachytherapy for prostate cancer, teaming with Dr. Gregory Echt of the Brachytherapy Institute of North Texas.  Advanced prostate cancer is treated (chiefly) with androgen deprivation therapy.  Dr. Casey is NOT qualified or trained at doing any cancer operations laparoscopically or with Robotic-assisted laparoscopy.

Kidney and ureteral stone disease is also a commonly treated condition, and perhaps are the most common surgical diseases treated by him.  Dr. Casey performs ESWL (extra-corporeal shock wave lithotripsy), ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy (Holmium-YAG), ureteroscopy and stone basketing, and also does has a modest practice in endourology treating urinary strictures with endourologic means such as the Acucise endopyelotomy for UPJ obstruction among other things.  Dr. Casey does a modicum of open stone surgery, but large renal stones needing percutaneous therapy will be referred due to the unavailability of the appropriate technology in Denton.

Patients with neurogenic bladder dysfunction (i.e. bladder dysfunction from neurological illness such as multiple sclerosis [MS], spinal cord injury, brain trauma, or the like) can be seen, though they would likely be better suited to going to specialty centers who are more equipped to take care of these problems.  These centers have specialty urodynamic equipment such as video-urodynamics, and other more highly technically equipped offices that may provide better diagnosis and treatment.  Dr. Casey will likely refer difficult neuro-urologic cases to these specialty centers in the area.

Dr. Casey also has an interest in BPH (Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia) and is adept at medical as well as standard surgical therapies.  Dr. Casey and Admire are now providing "Greenlight Laser" prostate vaporization procedures (PVP - Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate) as part of their practice.

Dr. Casey only rarely (if ever) performs anti-incontinence surgery in women, and this is no longer routinely offered.
He performs transurethral collagen (Contigen) injections.  He is no longer doing pubovaginal slings, and is phasing out other aspects of female urologic (pelvic reconstructive) surgery, such as bladder neck suspensions.  Other physicians (urologists and gynecologists) in Denton are probably a better bet to address these issues, and difficult cases (repeat surgery, etc.) will be referred to the UT Southwestern Medical School's Female Urology specialists.
Also, Dr. Casey is no longer repairing cystoceles in the absence of stress incontinence, and has never repaired rectoceles.  In essence, he is no longer doing female reconstructive pelvic surgery for incontinence/prolapse and similar maladies.  If your uterus is still intact, and you have 'prolapse', then a gynecologist should perform your surgery so that a hysterectomy can be done when that surgeon repairs the prolapse.  Dr. Admire still performs anti-incontinence surgery, so patients directed to Dr. Casey should make their appointment with Dr. Admire instead if incontinence is the issue.

Dr. Casey also performs standard vasectomy for sterilization in the office, but does not do vasectomy reversal.  Infertility is NOT a specialty of Dr. Casey.  Due to the lack of local labs that do semen analyses (our hospital does NOT perform this test any longer), Dr. Casey is NO LONGER seeing infertility patients.  Patients can be appointed to Dr. Admire if they so desire, or can be referred straight to an infertility specialist if they prefer.  Thanks for your understanding.

Although Dr. Casey sees urology problems of all stripes, he has less interest in the "medical aspects" such as prostatitis , interstitial cystitis, or "pain syndromes".  Perhaps another physician would be best suited to treat your CP/CPPS or IC condition.

Erectile dysfunction is treated in a rudimentary, goal-directed fashion.  If you are seeking the "cause" for your ED with specialized testing (i.e. duplex scanning, cavernosometry, cavernosography, NPT, etc.,) then you are coming to the wrong place.  Also, "natural remedies", penis enlargement, and sexual "improvement" therapy is NOT a focus of Dr. Casey's practice.  Dr. Casey does not perform penile prosthetic surgeries and in general will refer these patients on to specialty centers, if needed.  See the ED Page for info on goal-directed ED therapy.  Dr. Casey is NOT an endocrinologist, nor is he an herbalist, and does not deal with "psychological" sexual dysfunction, nor sexual dysfunction in women.

This list of interests is intended to help patients make an informed decision as to whether their condition is an appropriate one to be evaluated by Dr. Casey.  It is not intended to scare anyone off or make anyone feel they aren't welcome.  It is simply felt that listing the doctor's strengths and interests will help patients be confident that they won't waste their valuable time and energy going to a specialist who doesn't address the condition they have on a routine basis.

Again, thanks for your understanding!
