"Chronic Prostatitis" (CP/CPPS)

This page has been removed to a folder that can be requested by Dr. Casey's established patients if they wish to learn more.  Dr. Casey does NOT see CP/CPPS patients unless they come into his practice as a matter of course (i.e. they come from and/or are diagnosed from the local community).

Despite  clear statements about not seeing, and NOT WANTING to see CP/CPPS patients, Dr. Casey's office still receives numerous phone calls from patients wishing to travel from distance to visit our clinic for treatment/evaluation of CPPS.  Clearly stated, we have no special expertise, are not likely to be able to help you beyond what your local physician can do, and frankly, do not care to take on any CPPS patients other than those who happen to live in our service area and get referred by local primary care doctors.  We try our best, but this condition has no known clear-cut cause, no definite cure, and a very poor track record at treatment...thanks for your understanding.  Dr. Casey is trying to cultivate a primarily surgical practice, and CPPS is a NON-SURGICAL diagnosis.  Surgery doesn't help, and despite TUMT (and other heat-based therapies) being tried, Dr. Casey is reticent to begin treatment in men whose complaint is pain as invariably, in his experience, men with this condition will likely not tolerate a procedure that heats the prostate up to high temperature in a local office setting with only local anesthesia.

See the note below for further details...thanks.  DLC 7/29/2004

Please note (note from Dr. Casey):

I request that CP/CPPS  patients not residing in the immediate Denton area do not travel to seek care for their condition with me.

These conditions require ongoing therapy and experience has taught me that such long-distance relationships are often impossible to conduct acceptably.  Patients who travel great distances often have expectations of my services which are unrealistic. I would like to reiterate that I have no special expertise or training in chronic prostatitis.  Several years ago I attempted to have a 'prostatitis focus' in my clinic, and saw many patients who traveled from distance to see me, most of whom were happy with what attention I could provide, but ultimately disappointed by my 'average' results...

There are many patients in my own locale who suffer from this malady, and this keeps my practice quite busy. My results have frankly not been good enough to warrant attraction of patients from other "long-distance" sites.  I believe my "results" from treating CP/CPPS (and interstitial cystitis) are likely no different than most other urologists.

I must request that patients seek care either in their local area, or if they desire to travel, then they should seek care in some tertiary (University-type) center that caters to such conditions.

I thank you for your understanding.  A rule of thumb regarding visiting our facility is that if you would normally not seek care in Denton, then you should not come to Denton for care for your chronic medical condition.
